LAAC Clinical Application Seminar Tour- Guangdong Stop

The Left Atrial Appendage Closure (LAAC) Clinical Application Seminar Tour was initiated by China Atrial Fibrillation Center and organized by LifeTech Scientific Corporation. The seminar tour has received wide recognition since the sessions in Hubei and Zhejiang province were successfully held. Recently, the third session of the seminar tour-Guangdong Stop was kicked-off to provide the guidance on the standardization of the LAAC during the COVID-19 outbreak for cardiovascular doctors. 

The seminar tour was hosted by Professor Tang Anli and Professor He Jiangui from the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, Processor Chen Qiuxiong from Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine, Professor Huang He from Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, Professor Fang Xianhong from Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital, Professor Huang Xiaobo from Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University, Professor Li Haiying from Shenzhen University General Hospital, Professor Yuan Jie from Shenzhen People’s Hospital and Professor Zhao Yu from Dongguan Donghua Hospital. Many clinical experts from Guangdong Province were also invited to share the academic information of LAAC and cases with the LAmbre™ LAAC system.

Academic Exchanges

Professor Huang He from Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University shared the latest progress of the LAAC. The recently published American ACC-NCDR (National Cardiovascular Disease Registry) is the largest real-world LAAC registry study to date. The study demonstrated that the procedure success rate of LAAC reached 98.3%, and the incidence of adverse events during the hospitalization stay was only 2.2%, which further confirmed the safety and the effectiveness of LAAC. Professor Huang He summarized, LAAC has been widely recognized globally, and it has entered the rapid development stage.

Professor He Jiangui from the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University mainly analyzed the LAAC patient selection based on the domestic and overseas guidelines and the clinical benefits of the procedure. Professor He Jiangui expressed that the operator should conduct personalized analysis based on the patient’s condition, and should consider broadening the indication for the special cases.

LAmbre ™ LAAC Cases Sharing and Discussion

In the case sharing session, Professor Ma Yuedong from the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University shared two cases, the patients had stroke history and high bleeding risk. The two patients had been successfully implanted LAmbre™ LAA occulder in 2018, and there was no abnormality and no stroke recurrence found in the post-procedure follow-up in two years. Professor Ma Yuedong stressed that the LAmbre™ device is safe and effective with unique advantages.

Professor Dong Fengquan from Shenzhen University General Hospital shared a case of atrial fibrillation (AF) one-stop treatment under the intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) guidance. The operator adopted the LAmbre™ LAAO with the specification of “small umbrella with larger cover” that successfully closed the patient’s double-lobed LAA. Professor Dong Fengquan concluded that ICE is very helpful in the clinical application in providing the guidance and monitoring the cardiac anatomy, atrial septal puncture, residual shunt and so on, which gives an alternative option for patients who cannot tolerate the TEE.

Professor Wang Yuegang from Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University shared two LAmbre™ LAAC cases. The "small umbrella with larger cover" specification was used to close the double-lobed LAA, and the largest specification of LAmbre™ was adopted for the closure of huge cauliflower-shaped LAA. Professor Wang Yuegang concluded that the LAmbre™ device makes the LAAC safer and more effective. The unique design of "small umbrella with larger cover" is highly adaptive to multi-lobed LAA anatomies, while the large-sized specifications provide the option for the closure of large LAA.

At last, Professor Peng Hu from the Fifth Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University shared two multi-lobed shallow LAAC cases using the LAmbre™ "small umbrella with larger cover" specification. The professor also shared his experience regarding to the alignment adjustment during the procedure, closure strategy adjustment based on the LAA anatomy, and specification selection of the device.
